Comparison of Insertional RNA Editing in Myxomycetes
RNA editing describes the process in which individual or short stretches of nucleotides in a messenger or structural RNA are inserted, deleted, or substituted. A high level of RNA editing has been observed in the mitochondrial genome of Physarum polycephalum. The most frequent editing type in Physarum is the insertion of individual Cs. RNA editing is extremely accurate in Physarum; however, lit...
متن کاملProtostelids and myxomycetes isolated from aquatic habitats.
Protostelids and myxomycetes have been isolated from dead plant parts in many different habitats, including tropical rain forests and deserts. However underwater habitats largely have been overlooked. The purpose of this study was to determine whether protostelids do occur in aquatic habitats and to survey the myxomycetes associated with these habitats. Protostelids and myxomycetes were isolate...
متن کاملProduction of biodiesel from wastewater grown Chlorella minutissima
The present study has been undertaken to assess integrated algal harvesting in sewage wastewater for biodiesel feedstock. Chlorella minutissima microalgae are grown in wastewater from local hotel sewage drain and produced biomass is used to produce biodiesel. C. minutissima effectively removes the wastewater nutrients nitrogen and phosphorus with the 99.19% and 96% removal respectively. Content...
متن کاملReproductive systems in the myxomycetes: a review
A review of reproduction in the myxomycetes reveals that they have a basic one-locus multiplealleleic heterothallic mating system, which controls syngamy between haploid amoeboflagellates to produce the diploid plasmodium. However, each morphologically defined species contains a number of biological sibling species that can’t interbreed with each other and are centered in different regions of t...
متن کاملTwo Species of Myxomycetes Causing Slime Mold of Sweet Potato
Specimens collected from sweet potato plants with slime mold symptoms in fields in Daejeon, Korea were examined. Two species of Myxomycetes, Fuligo septica and Stemonitis herbatica were identified based on their morphological characteristics. This is the first report that the two species of Myxomycetes cause slime mold of sweet potato in Korea.
